WOW long time!

It has been SO long since I have updated this blog...so much for keeping a regular blog...Must try harder..maybe that could be a new year resolution lol

So a lot has changed since I last updated had a lot of losses

Percy,Wade,Ninja,Rogue,Eden,Jinx,Harley, Asbo + Felix

So a lot of sadness, Plus Trouble will be leaving me shortly. He has a large lump on his neck that is starting to become a nuisance to him. I will be sad to see him go, he has been with me since he was born two and a half years ago. He has had a lovely life though <3

Aswell as sad losses there are a few new faces

I got the chance to take on Atari's 2 Nephews and Niece. All hairless, a top eared black eyed male , the spit of Atari actually called Atticus...A dumbo with black eyes and a kink in his tail, Pilot..and a pink eyed doe...Pink....Princess Pinkie Pie to give her her full title..which became Princess Pinkie "pirate" Pie when she, like Atari had to have an eye removed after it ruptured...less than a week after Atticus lost one of his..he really is a mirror image of Atari now.

Pink also was a doe I wasnt going to get...I had decided that I was going to stick to bucks but since have done a 180 and changed my mind and now its does all the way. Well in a few years I may run two groups again but for now I just want to have one group to clean out etc


This in mind, I got three new girls to join my pair that were left , to make them a group again
Mocha- gorgeous little Mink berkshire top ear. A bit flighty, but bruxes loads for me when she comes out
Luna- tiny seal point siamese hooded. Dumbo but small ears lol. Sister to Aeon and owner of very cute little pink nose
Aeon- Looks white with ruby eyes, think she may be a siamese roan... has a tiny bit of darkening on the outside of her ears.


Thats it for rat updates. But cant leave without a Dexter update
Dexter is now 15months old, and is still as cheeky as ever. Would sell his soul for food which makes training with treats simple, but he isnt keen if he thinks that there is nothing in it for him. Pretty certain there is beagle in there which explains his major stubborness. He loved christmas , he was spoilt rotten

Spoilt Dexter

Bought Dexter some toys the other day and they arrived today. I'm hoping they will last a while and keep him entertained as while he isn't crazy active (though he does love a good run) He is happiest being kept entertained mentally. Also in the package was his yearly supply of wormer and flea treatment- It seemed best to stock up while we had free delivery lol. So this afternoon we were sat sticking stickers in my mums diary so we dont forget when to treat him.Yes what exciting lives we lead XD

I also had the task of cleaning the rats out today, I do not know how the bottom cage of boys gets their cage so dirty in just a week!I think they should learn a thing or two from the girls who are neat. Asbo had another abcess, not sure if it was left over from bites Trouble gave him or if there has been fresh fighting. Grumpy old men! I need to get some more pictures of them all, they just really dont like posing it means sitting still or getting out of bed!

Fun day at the park

Took Dexter to the park with his friend Lucky today. They had a wonderful time , and played for many hours. They also befriended some other dogs, luckily the dogs didn't mind the attentions of two silly boys. They met a pair of cavalier king charles spaniels (Dexter chased the Tricolour one , he liked it better than the blenheim lol) They met a huge dalmatian, a border terrier, a big lab (that Dexter was scared of lol) plus some pugs. Dexter wasnt too sure about the pugs, dont think he realised they were dogs too.

He had a good play with Lucky (boys play so silly and rough), and a good run (Lucky cant keep up with his gangly legs, he gives it a good go though bless him)

We then went to a cafe for a treat for the human members of the park trip, although the pups shared a mini milk ice lolly. The pups then went off the lead for a bit longer and made friends with another border terrier pup, this one was as silly as they were, a really cute pup. Lucky also gatecrashed a picnic for some yoghurt.

Two young girls came over and asked permission to stroke the dogs which was refreshing, so many people just come over and stroke dogs without asking. Then it was time for an icecream and then home , where one tired pooch laid down for a nice sleep, and I admit, I had a nap myself. Was a lovely day and lovely weather, and next month we are going to a charity dog show, hopefully we will win a rosette lol and the boys will behave somewhat

Happy Second Birthday...+other stuff

..To Trouble, Harley, Quinn, Eden + Jinx! Does not feel like two years since they were born lol. Didnt get a big celebration due to me being on limited movement atm (more on that later) but i shall be making it up to them. They are still fairly spritely for their age although Harley has a lump under one of his arms , and one of Jinx's hind legs is a bit weaker then it was. Trouble is still trouble but I dont see that ever changing.

Since i last typed ( I dont update this nearly enough,I really must change that!) had two sad losses. Gonzo my lovely russiah blue hairless passed away and my gerbil Storm also died, leaving Rayne alone. Rayne was sad for a few days but seems to be doing well now. Gerbils are terrible for pining. Apparently introductions for female gerbils are very tricky too and seldom fail :(

Dexter is still keeping me very busy. I forgot how hard work pups are lol , being so many years since Casey was young. He isn't happy unless he is with me constantly , work on his separation anxiety is on-going, when we went out last week he stayed quite nicely in his crate with the aid of a kong and a bone. So hopefully he will go from strength to strength. But being as i suspect part doberman he will stay very much a velcro dog. Other issues are his ability to destroy toys, we are on the hunt for some really tough ones, the extra strong kong toy has held up so far. He had a puppy play date with a gorgeous staffy puppy , who returns this weekend so that shall have to be a blog entry with some pictures lol

Getting onto me being on limited movement, on sunday evening I stood on a plug in my garage and now have two holes in my foot , and it is incredibly sore. Dexter of course doesnt understand this and keeps veering dangeously close to my injured foot, im just waiting for him to hit it. I'm hoping it heals soon because hes wondering why I'm not playing with him so much..poor pup

Dexter

Nearly two weeks since we got Dexter, and its been busy! He is now chipped, castrated and the insurance hunt is nearly over. We have settled him on a new food, which thankfully he loves.

Its only two days since his castration and how I'am meant to keep him calm for 10 days is a mystery. He leaps about like a mountain goat.

He currently likes skulking off upstairs (his crate is up there while we work on his separation anxiety- got sick of sleeping on the sofa so he didnt cry the house down) but i think hes actually going on my bed the little monkey!

He also climbs on the sofa which he isn't allowed to do but sometimes its just too cute :P

He is reallllly clever though..been doing training with him as he gets more out of having a stimulated mind. He does love other dogs though, before he was castrated he made friends with a huge boxer that was tonnes bigger than him, and he has a thing for my friends youngest dalmatian bitch.

The rats are doing well too. They dont like the warmer days much. Many of my guys are getting old too, i have several turning two in the next few months, Gonzo is starting to look old and thin, hes still a really happy boy though :)

An ending, and a beginning...

On the 7th of April , i had to make the heartbreaking descision to have my beloved Casey put to sleep. He had been on antibiotics for nearly 6 weeks and was due to go back to the vets for a check up on the monday. He started complaining when his tail or leg was touched , so was taken to the vet where even being lightly touched made him scream. This was most unlike him , he was a very staid dog and rarely complained of pain , even if he walked into tables. The choices were put him to sleep or take him home for the weekend. I chose to put him to sleep then and there as bringing him home would of benefitted me , not him .

I could write so many words about Casey...after all he was in my life 14 years, he was due to have his 15th birthday in June. He was more than a dog, more like a brother. I wished on my birthday candles for many years for a dog and finally in January 1997 i wore my mother down. We were due to get a shetland sheepdog but the person rehoming , rehomed to someone else so the hunt began again. Turned out to be meant to be , as we found an ad for a small brown terrier which we travelled up to leeds for. When we got there, we found nothing like a small brown terrier , but he lept on me and i knew he was the right dog for me. And so came many years of memories. I cant name them all but a brief summary

Meeting me from school and knocking me flying when he didnt stop
Running off into the street with the wheely bin attached to him yelling his head off and putting rubbish on the road
Barking at a bin that he thought was a threat to me and my mum
Chewing my glasses up
When i forgot he was in the garden and he waited on the doorstep all night to be let in
How everyone loved him
And how he was my only friend for a very long time, and my best for all of it

So once you lose a dog that is so part of your life , a bit part of your routine is gone. I had wanted another dog before Casey passed away and I had informal looks.
Last Saturday I found an ad for a puppy , and thats how Dexter entered my life.

Dexter is a lovely 7month old pup. Hes like Caseys polar opposite, likes other dogs , doesnt mind buses but shy with new people and a spot of separation anxiety...but he will improve...

I entered a competition on The rodent rebels site and Atari is going to be in the cartooon :D YAY.
I already love the cartoons soooo much , so having my lil man in it will be so lovely <3

RIP My beautiful Lola

Had my lovely old lady Lola , put to sleep today aged 2 and a half. She had a nasty pyometra as well as a large lump, and was also having hide leg trouble so I chose to put her to sleep so she didnt suffer. She will be hugely missed by myself and the girls who shared her cage. Lola was very much so the alpha rat, and saw a fair few rats in her life. Her original girls were Venus, Asher, Siouxie and Lily, and after these four were gone , although she had company no other rats really meant as much to her as they did. When Lily died , she withdrew into herself. Her greatest fans were Eden and Jinx who always groomed her, even more so in her last few days.

Now shes gone , there is likely to be a squabble for top rat, I'm honestly not sure who will win this one. Jinx seems too laid back, Eden is bolshy enough. They both have senority on their side. Rogue is more of a follower this could change though. And Rave has the personality but is younger , and also has been showing a softer side. Will be keeping an eye on proceedings.

Lola gave a lot of joy and will be sorely missed. I got her and her sister for a fiver and its one of the best fivers i have ever spent. Sort out the bolshy ones at the rainbow bridge.
